Boxing Gloves

The primary function of boxing gloves is to protect the hands of a boxer. They are made of leather mittens or vinyl and are heavily cushioned. Though they rarely will make a scratch in the opponent’s body, you cannot rule out brain injury. One of the reasons for that is the protection given to the hands of the boxer with modern gloves with their good cushioning.

There are several types of boxing gloves. For practice, there is the bag glove that is being used when a boxer practices with the bag. This is designed to protect the boxer’s hand. Sparring gloves are made for practice bouts. They are made to protect both competitors. Evan the professional fighting gloves are made in order to protect both players but the padding in them is less.

When it comes to the weight of boxing gloves a sparring glove may weigh from 14 to 20 ounces but a professional glove will weigh only 8 to 10 ounces. The lower weight of professional glove is due to its lesser padding. Though the gloves have such a lot of safety padding, they are worn after the hand is first protected by hand wrapping to make it safer.

One important difference between the sparring gloves and the professional gloves is that the professional glove is laced to attach while the sparring glove has Velcro fastening. The laced glove of a competitor in the ring is inspected by an official and sealed with a signed piece of tape to make it tamper proof.
